POLLEN
Pollen is formed in the anther, the end
section of the stamen, in main cells which each contain four grains of pollen.A flower's
male seed, pollen can also be described as vegetable sperm. Whilst in flower, the anther
opens releasing a fine dust comprised of pollen grains. The fecundation of flowers, or the
regeneration of fruits or seeds, occurs when the pollen unites with the pistil which
houses the flower's ovaries. this form of fecundation via the transport of pollen is known
as pollination. There are two types of
pollination: Direct- when the pollen escapes the stamen and fertilizes the pistil of the
same flower.
Crossed - When the pollen cannot fertilize the pistil
(sterile flower) and is thus transported by either wind or bees to the pistil of other
flowers.
Bees are the most effective form of transportation during
pollination.
A bee's legs are perfectly formed for the collection of
pollen;
- the front legs collect pollen by covering the antennae.
- the middle legs transport the pollen collected by the
front legs and pass it to the hind legs.
- the hind legs are like specialized instruments, both
being equipped with brush and crate. The brushes are used to collect the pollen
,subsequently storing it in the crate of the opposite leg. The crate is a cavity in which
th epollen is collected, amalgamated around a large hair situated at the base of the
crate, around which the pollen is mounted to form a ball.
Pollen is above all else a natural strengthener that
improves our organisms general health. Pollen stimulates the organism and therefore helps
combat microbic attacks, aiding the body's natural defences by regulating it's functions
and balancing fragile metabolisms.Pollen re-instates strength and well being in persons
suffering from fatigue, weakness and intoxication. Pollen is also known to stimulate
appetite and is often used to treat anorexics.
Pollen is also recommended for decalcification, the
treatment of rickets, breast feeding mothers, retarded growth, anemia, intellectual
fatigue, neurasthenia, memory, chronic constipation, diarrhea, colitis, hair loss,
impotence, early aging, senescence and hypertrophy of the prostate.
